- Unusualness: A freak event that does not happen that often. Example: A person having eight babies, man biting a dog.
- Human Interest: A event in the news that is happy for everyone a feel good story. Example: A new dolphin being born at the zoo.

It is so popular because it is the best of both worlds. There are video clips also articles to read. So all people find things to entertain themselves and news to read. Also the Internet is free and it is so current. They update things constantly and it is never old news unlike the newspaper that is only current every morning.
